Mark Elliott, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience. Certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American College of Phlebology, Dr. Elliott serves the community of Meridian, Mississippi, at both the skin care clinic and the surgery center of Meridian Plastic Surgery.
Growing up in Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Elliott was born when his father was completing his general surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and his mother was finishing medical school. While a star athlete in high school, Dr. Elliott decided not to pursue a college basketball career and instead graduated magna cum laude from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Dr. Elliott has always been passionate about education, so his acceptance to Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana, with an honors scholarship, is not surprising. Not only did he receive the prestigious anatomy award and the pathology award, but he was also one of just a handful of students selected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. Additionally, he served as the honor society president during his senior year of college.
At his medical school graduation, Dr. Elliott received the Isadore Dyar medal for finishing as the top graduate in his class. He also received the Oscar Creech Award as the top student in surgery.
Dr. Elliott decided to pursue a career in plastic surgery after scoring in the top 1% of applicants on his board certification exam following his five-year residency. He then entered the most renowned plastic surgery training program in the United States at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
During his final year of training, Dr. Elliott earned the coveted title of chief resident before relocating to Meridian to join Lee Thornton, MD, at Meridian Plastic Surgery, where he has worked ever since.
While Meridian Plastic Surgery specializes in general plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Elliott’s areas of expertise include breast surgery, vein care, wound care, and hand surgery.
Dr. Elliott belongs to a number of professional organizations, including the Mississippi State Medical Association, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgery, and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
Outside of work, Dr. Elliott loves spending time with his family. An avid runner, he has completed 11 marathons, including the New York Marathon and the Boston Marathon. Dr. Elliott has even won the Mississippi State Games 5K twice.
