About Dr. Thornton

Lee Thornton, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in oculoplastic and hand surgery. A highly skilled surgeon, Dr. Thornton brings more than 30 years of experience to Meridian Plastic Surgery, the skin care clinic, and the surgery center, all in Meridian, Mississippi. His areas of expertise include eyelid surgery, tear duct surgery, and facial reconstructive surgery.

Born and raised in Meridian, Dr. Thornton grew up in a medical family. After graduating with honors from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, Dr. Thornton worked as a laboratory instructor at Millsaps College Department of Biology in Jackson, Mississippi, before enrolling in medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

During his time at Tulane, Dr. Thornton earned his Doctor of Medicine as well as his Master of Science in Public Health and Tropical Medicine, graduating at the top of his class. He then moved to Denver, Colorado, to start a community medicine internship at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. Following his internship, Dr. Thornton gained acceptance into a highly competitive general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Thornton completed five years of surgical training before earning a coveted plastic surgery training position at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Finally, he pursued an additional cosmetic and oculoplastic surgery fellowship at Paces Plastic Surgery Center in Atlanta.

Since finishing his training and earning his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Thornton has served on the International Committee for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), become a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and was even selected to be one of the Medical Advisory Board Members for the Plastic Surgery Channel.

Dr. Thornton and his wife, Michelle, returned to Meridian in 1998 to launch Meridian Plastic Surgery. When he isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with Michelle and their four children, collecting guitars, and golfing.
